"Like a thief in the night, Lil B released his I’m Gay album to iTunes with limited promo or fanfare. And while the peanut gallery has been split over the album’s title, The Based God can now count Lupe Fiasco as a supporter. The ever controversial Mr. Fiasco tweeted, “I actually think callin his album “I’m Gay” is GENIUS & Revolutionary, the cover is Genius, some brave shit…AND he spittin REAL sh*t” and went into further detail via his site, proclaiming B’s album to now be classified as “Liberation Rock.” According to Lupe, “the title “I’m Gay (I’m Happy)” I think is absolute genius. Those two words together side by side in almost any format in the society we live in can be a cultural and social death sentence.”
They also note:
"Enh. Looking at the album cover, I’m assuming revolutionaries don’t bother with apostrophes or spell-checking."
Spelling and bad grammar aside (besides, who am I to talk?), I have to say that the album cover is pretty dope. Of course, it is a blatant rip-off, or homage depending upon how you choose to view it, of Marvin Gaye's I Want You. But calling Lil B, who literally writes songs about what he so happens to be watching on TV at the moment, a genius is a bit of a stretch.
